“…in the polymorphous world of the burlesque, where everybody gives and receives blows at will… violence is universal and without consequences, there is no guilt.”
Pascal Bonitzer, Le Champ aveugle (1982)
Burlesque alludes to the performative nature of the racism and violence witnessed in the infamous Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse and torture photographs of 2004. Burlesque has recently been screened at: EMAF European Media Art Festival, Osnabrueck; Bandits-Mages Festival, Bourges, France; and featured in ‘Everyday Discrepancies’ a film programme to support ‘Assume Nothing: New Social Practice’ at the Art Gallery of Victoria, Canada as well as being featured in the Short Film Corner at the Festival de Cannes, 14-24 May 2008
